[et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text”]The article I linked to below caught my eye. Lennar Homes, the nation’s largest homebuilder will be developing a 2000 acre master planned community in Surprise in the west valley, called Asante. Within the larger community will be “Heritage at Asante,” an Active Adult (over 55) community of 1500 homes.
Surprise already includes, or is near other major “over 55” communities, such as Sun City West, Sun City Grand, Sun Village, Arizona Traditions, etc. Asante will be built at 163rd Ave and Grand.
The amenities at this community piqued my interest. Yes, there will an upscale community center with an extensive fitness center, resort style pool, dog park plus amenity newer-comers to the active adult fare, pickle ball and Bocce ball courts.
What about golf? That’s something else of interest that even a hacker like me might consider. Per the article, there will be a 9 hole putting course. But not just any putting course. No, this course will feature holes of famous greens around the country including, TPC Scottsdale, Pebble Beach in California and Augusta National in Georgia. Apparently the courses are done by computer to be identical to these holes.
The community will include a variety of single-family detached homes ranging from 1,600 to 2,300 square feet as well as duplexes ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 square feet. Prices will start in the low $200,000s.
Now here’s the question you must answer. Would “you” like active adult living?
Kay, who is now 86, and unarguably the most wonderful mother-in-law in all of God’s creation, lives in Sun City West (SCW). Her husband Dexter passed shortly after moving here. Mom (yes, Kay is my mother-in-law) has lived in the same home they bought there ever since. Kay, being very social has no shortage of friends and neighbors, enjoys weekly card games, frequent dining out, and her local church in SCW is a spiritual anchor for her.
Most important to Kay is that she lives near many of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. In light of that, she could live anywhere.
So even though Kay no longer uses SCW amenities, her family and friends are the quality of life she enjoys. Could she have done that apart from living in an active adult community? Probably. But I think she would be the first to say that SCW more easily facilitated her circle of friends and neighbors that she enjoys “life” with.
All of that is to say, if you’re the social type, you could very well feel right at home in active adult living. If you prefer privacy and don’t need community amenities, then many communities might work for you, so why pay extra monthly costs for amenities you won’t use?
One final word about this new community called Asante. I did some checking to find out what this word Asante means? It’s Swahili and can be translated “thank you.”
Another definition translates it, “but do you like it?” So perhaps you already know the answer!
